UKRAINE, LVIV, Dec. 5 — On Dec. 3, a man attacked a recruitment center’s employees with a knife in Lviv. One of them was injured in the leg, which caused massive bleeding. He died in the hospital, said the Lviv regional recruitment center.

The name of the killed employee was Yurii Bondarenko. He was born and raised in Kharkiv, and studied there. He went to fight in the Russia-Ukraine war before 2022 and was awarded with the “Defenders of the Homeland” and “War Veteran” medals, said the Lviv City Council.

With the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Bondarenko returned to the frontline.

The Prosecutor’s General Office said that thanks to the quick actions of law enforcement officers, the man who attacked recruitment officers was identified and detained. According to preliminary data, the attacker was a 30-year-old Lviv local.

On Dec. 5, a court in Lviv chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the murder of Bondarenko. The court ruled to keep the man in custody for 60 days without the right to bail, said Suspilne Lviv.

On Dec. 5, Bondarenko was buried in Lviv. The veteran is survived by his mother, grandfather, and wife.
