UKRAINE, KHARKIV, May 22 — At 1:30 a.m. on May 22, Ihor Terekhov, the mayor of the city, reported that a Russian missile had hit the Kholodnohirskyi district.
Later, Oleh Syniehubov, the region governor, denied the information about the night missile attack. He told Suspilne that an aerial battle occurred in Kholodnohirskyi district, and wreckage fell on the private sector.
“We record a lot of Shahed and Geran drones over Kharkiv. We use anti-aircraft warfare all the time and for any aims. Now, we are investigating the details,” said Syniehubov.
At the same time, Ukrainian forces record an accumulation of Russian troops near the border with Kharkiv Oblast. They warn about Russians’ preparation for active assaults on the Kharkiv axis.
The governor said that explosions in Kholodnohirskyi district injured 60-year-old, 63-year-old, and 68-year-old women. All of them have an acute stress reaction.
The State Emergency Service said rescuers recorded damage to local houses, a street pipeline, and an electric transmission.
Terekhov also said to Novyny.LIVE that the night attack damaged 13 houses.
“We recorded an explosion (fall of the debris from aerial battle — ed.) on the road, and the hole (in the road) has immediately been asphalted,” he said.
Locals are cleaning the damage after the explosions they heard at night.
“We came in the morning and saw this terrible thing. The attack broke glass (in the windows — ed.). Now, we are trying to repair it. We can’t repair the roof because there are holes in it. We will try to call specialists to do it. We will do what we can within our power,” said Dmytro, a resident of the private sector of the Kholodnohirskyi district.
Another Dmytro, also a local that lives near where the debris fell, said that he heard the explosions but his home was not damaged.
“I could hear everything. It hit the roofs. Three years ago, (Russian attack) completely destroyed our home. Here — 500 meters (points to the direction of the impact). I was injured, concussed. The fragments are still in my body. Houses were destroyed. The neighbor’s house burned down,” he said.
Currently, specialists and municipal workers are working at the impact site to help civilians clean up after the aerial battle.
On May 21, Russian forces launched an aerial bomb at an apartment building in Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, killing one and injuring four people.
