UKRAINE, May 20 — On May 19, leading Korean asphalt concrete producer SG signed a Memorandum of cooperation with the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

“In January, we met with Korean companies POSCO International and SG representatives. Since then, we have had several meetings and planned common projects, including building Cogeneration on RDF in Ukrainian communities together with POSCO. Now, we have signed a Memorandum with SG. We will adopt Korea’s 10-year experience — EcoSteel Ascon ecological technology,” said Serhii Sukhomlyn, the head of the State Agency for Reconstruction.

EcoSteel Ascon is an environmentally friendly asphalt paving technology that increases the durability of the roadway by using slag, a metallurgical byproduct.

The sides plan to exchange technologies and implement joint projects, particularly on highways such as the P-55, important for the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.

Durable, reliable roadways are especially important for the frontline regions of Ukraine, where their quality can affect whether soldiers that are being evacuated will survive the transportation.

Earlier, one of the communities in Kharkiv Oblast has almost completed the reconstruction of a bridge that was destroyed by the Russians in 2022.
