ITALY, MILAN, CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Feb. 10 — Yelyzaveta Sydorko, Kharkiv short-track athlete, broke national record during Winter Olympic Games 2026, but she didn’t pass the qualifications, reported Suspilne Sport.

Sydorko became the only Ukrainian woman to compete in women’s short- track speed skating in 2026, and the first representative of the country in this discipline since 1998.

She completed the Olympic 500-meter race in 43.337 seconds. According to Suspilne, the previous national record for this distance was 43.5 seconds.

Sydorko finished fourth in her qualifying group.

The opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games 2026 took place on Feb. 6. Sydorko became Ukraine’s flag bearer at the ceremony.
