UKRAINE, Feb. 6 — Kharkiv thermal power plant TEC-5 and Kyiv’s Darnytsia thermal power plant TEC-6, which Russia severely damaged on Feb. 3, can be repaired, said Serhii Nahorniak, member of Ukraine’s parliament from the president’s party “People’s Servant” to Telegraph.

On Feb. 3, Russia launched a mass attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, including in Kharkiv, leaving over 100,000 families without heating and causing emergency power outages. Bohdan Tkachuk, a deputy of the Kharkiv city council, claimed that restoring the TEC-5, damaged in the attack, is impossible.

Nahorniak believes otherwise. “It’s hard to say how much time is needed to restore each power plant. This information is being constantly updated. But all heating power plants in Kyiv and Kharkiv can be restored. It’s not a critical situation, when we need to think about some (other solution). Everything’s going to be restored,” Nahorniak said.

Nahorniak added that Kharkiv will need the Cabinet of Minister’s help to restore the city’s heating plants with the help of international partners.

On Feb. 6, the Energy Ministry reported that Sweden will allocate 1 billion kronas (~$110,500) to restore Ukraine’s energy system after Russian strikes.

State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) classified Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as crimes against humanity.
