SERBIA, BELGRADE, Feb. 17 — Kharkiv athlete Yana Shelemba won a gold medal at the European Championship of mixed martial arts (MMA) among juniors, youth, and adults, which took place on Feb. 5-15 in Belgrade, reported the press service of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.
The athlete competed in the weight category up to 61.2 kilograms (135 pounds). Thanks to this victory, Shelemba became a three-time European champion.
Shelemba is a second year officer cadet of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.
“Back in 2024, the athlete was recognized as the world’s best female fighter by the International MMA Federation. Today, she continues to strengthen Ukraine’s position in the global sports arena,” said the university.
Earlier, Yelyzaveta Sydorko, a Kharkiv short-track athlete, broke the national record at the Winter Olympic Games 2026, but she didn’t qualify.
