UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Jan. 19 — On Jan. 19 at 3:10 p.m., Russian forces launched glide bombs on the Slobidskyi district of Kharkiv, killing 1, injuring at least 12 people, said Valeriia Chyrina, spokesperson for the regional Prosecutor’s office to Gwara Media.
“I lay down to rest and woke up because a window fell on me,” said Liudmyla, one of the locals.
A Russian attack damaged all the windows in Liudmyla’s house. The woman is very worried that all the windows need to be closed as soon as possible, because it will be very cold in the house due to the strong frosts in Kharkiv.
Liudmyla said that she and her relatives in the house were not seriously injured.
“I called for medical help because I was in shock, hysterical, and shaking all over. My relative was screaming in fear and couldn’t stop. She was cut by glass,” said Liudmyla.
Ludmyla said that the neighbor who was killed in an attack was an elderly woman. Later, the Kharkiv prosecutor’s office confirmed to Gwara Media that the Russian attack had killed a 69-year-old woman.
One of the explosions had hit the house directly, leaving a crater in one of the rooms.
Ihor Terekhov, the mayor of Kharkiv, said that one person is currently considered missing after the attack. Chyrina said to journalists that the Prosecutor’s Office is currently verifying this information.
“This is not the first time our district has been attacked,” said Maryna, another local.
The woman said that people living here had already experienced Russian attacks in 2022. Maryna’s house is a little further down the street, but today’s attack damaged it as well. The blast wave blew out her home’s windows. The houses of her neighbors are covered in glass.
Ihor, another local, said that the Russian attack completely destroyed the fence near his house.
“I was ready for the rocket to hit me, and it did. My dog is more afraid than I am,” said Ihor.
The man also said that there was no electricity on his street even before the daytime attack, because the Russians had previously attacked critical infrastructure in the Slobidskyi district.
Chyrina, a spokesperson for the Kharkiv prosecutor’s office, said that on Jan. 19, the Russians attacked Kharkiv three times. “At around 11:00 a.m., Russia attacked a critical infrastructure object in the city with a Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system. There were no casualties.”
At 11:35 a.m., a Russian attack drone also hit the Slobidsky district, damaging cars. There were also no casualties.
