The project is to begin in 2024
The creation of a barrierless environment for people with mobility impairments is planned, said Anton Korotkovksyh, the director of the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture of the Kharkiv regional military administration, during the briefing.
“This would be a first settlement [to implement the project — ed.] in Kharkiv Oblast. The project documentation is already being prepared. It’s planned to start repairs the next year,” he said.
Pesochyn was chosen because of the high number of internally displaced people, rapid development [of the settlement — ed.], and the fact it’s the largest settlement in the Kharkiv district after Kharkiv.
The plan is to make parking lots, state facilities, residential apartments, bomb shelters, and pedestrian crossings accessible for people with mobility impairments.
Note: People with disability in Ukraine consider mobility issues the most discriminatory aspect of life in the country.
