CROATIA, SPLIT, Oct. 13 — On Oct. 11, the Satellite FIE “St Duje’s Cup” fencing tournament took place in Croatia, where a 21-year-old Roman Samoilov from Kharkiv won his first bronze medal, reported the Department of Youth and Sports Affairs of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
Samoilov won three times in five group stage matches. Then, in the elimination round, he beat Matej Knepp from Slovakia 15:8 and Ukrainians Oleksandr Seliverstov (15:9) аnd Danyil Hoida (15:14).
In the 1/8 finals, Samoilov beat Estonian fencer Markus Salm (15:8), and, in the quarterfinals, he won against Akseli Heinämaa from Finland (15:12).
In the semifinals, Samoilov lost to Kovacs Gergely from Hungary with a score of 12:15.
Ukrainian fencers Anna Maksymenko and Nikita Koshman also won bronze medals at the Satellite FIE tournament in Split, said the Ukrainian National Fencing Federation.
