Fake: Azovstal Defenders` Cells in Lviv Human Reproduction Clinic

Tetiana Fram - 31 January 2023 | 15:33

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Gwara Media fact-checkers have analyzed a huge number of Russian disinformation cases and were able to conditionally divide them into different thematic groups. One of them is promoting the idea of nationalism in the everyday lives of ordinary Ukrainians. Here is the fake advancing this narrative far beyond the Russian media.

What happened?

The information spread online claimed that the Lviv Human Reproduction Clinic promoted the opportunity to choose one of Azovstal`s defenders as a donor to “revive” the nation. A screenshot with an alleged advertisement of a clinic providing the services is being distributed on social media.

The fake is actively distributed on English-language Twitter, though not many people trust this information.

Fact-checking

To check this information, we found the clinic’s page on social media. The real page of the clinic has a different name, it is called “Alternative Clinic”. Meanwhile, the fake advertisement “published” by the user calls it “The Clinic of Human Reproduction “Alternative”.

Moreover, we did not find such an announcement on the Alternative Clinic`s page.

We have even checked the clinic’s ads in the Facebook library and it turned out that the Clinic did not post any promotional materials through this social network.

“No ads matching your search criteria found”

We asked the clinic to comment on the announcement about the “rebirth of the nation”. It turned out that the Alternative Clinic not only did not publish but also did not conduct such a campaign.

What’s more, the clinic indicated that the attacks on its official website happened at the same time when this fake advertisement was being spread online. As the representatives of the clinic assume, it might have been done to place a fake ad on the the medical institution`s official page.

The Clinic answers our fact-checkers: “That`s fake, we`ve never published such ads. Someone tried to hack our website on Saturday, but they couldn`t, cause we are invincible) Thank you, different media outlets have been writing us for already two days.”

The conclusion

Such fakes once again confirm that anti-Ukrainian propaganda is not only the “fantasy” of some individuals but a comprehensive campaign aimed at discrediting Ukraine and its people in the world.

The purpose of spreading such “news” is to “prove” the presence of Nazi ideology in all spheres of life of ordinary Ukrainians. When analyzed, such “news” turn out to be just another misinformation.

It may be difficult to understand if the information is trustworthy. That is why we created the Perevirka bot. Send any news in Ukrainian or English and within 24 hours you will find out whether you can trust the chosen publication.
