UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, May 22 — Russian forces intensified their assaults in the Kharkiv region, including the area where the units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine operate, said Andrii Demchenko, the spokesperson of the service, during a national telethon.

Earlier, the Ukrainian military recorded an accumulation of Russian troops near the border with Kharkiv Oblast. Over the past day, Russia attacked 10 times on the Kharkiv and Kupiansk axes, reported the General Staff.

Demchenko said they saw the biggest activity in the directions of Vovchansk and Kupiansk. Russian troops are trying to push Ukrainian forces out of their positions, including border guard services north of the region.

“However, Russians can’t reach any significant success. It is all because of the resilience and heroism of Ukrainian defenders, including border guards and other units of Ukrainian forces,” said Demchenko.

The ISW also recorded Russian attempts to advance in the Kharkiv direction, but Ukrainian forces maintained fire control of all logistics routes in the area and prevented Russian forces from building pontoon crossings in Vovchansk over the Vovcha River.

From May 21 to 22, Russia attacked Kharkiv and seven settlements in the region, killing one person and injuring eight others.
